Clean-Up vs Facial: The Real Difference

The Stylist Unisex Salon · 28 September 2026 · 6 min read

It is Saturday afternoon and your cousin's engagement is tomorrow evening. In the mirror your skin looks flat and a little grey, the way it does after a long week in Gurugram traffic and air conditioning. At the salon the therapist asks the question you have heard a hundred times: clean-up or facial? Both words have been thrown at you with a price list and zero explanation. Here is what actually happens in each chair, without the sales pitch.

01 What a clean-up actually is

A clean-up is the shorter, simpler service. The sequence is almost always the same: cleansing, exfoliation with a scrub or a mild peel-off, a few minutes of steam to soften the skin, extraction of blackheads and whiteheads, then a mask and moisturiser. The whole thing takes 30 to 45 minutes.

The point is maintenance. It clears clogged pores and surface dead skin so your face looks fresher when you walk out. There is no long massage and no layered speciality masks. If your skin is generally behaving but looks dull, a clean-up is usually the right call. Think of it as a reset for congested skin, not a transformation.

02 What a facial adds on top

A facial starts where the clean-up ends and keeps going. After the cleanse and exfoliation you get a longer massage with creams or serums, sometimes a device step like high-frequency, then masks chosen for your skin type, and a final round of moisturiser and sunscreen. Sessions run 60 to 90 minutes, and the extra time is where the price difference goes.

The massage is not filler. It is where the therapist spends product and attention, and it is the part clients mention most afterwards. People usually walk out saying their skin looks more rested and even. Our facials are priced Rs 799 to 1999 depending on the type you pick.

03 Which one to book when

Pick a clean-up when your skin is mostly fine but looks flat, or when you already get one regularly and just need upkeep. Pick a facial when your skin feels tired, you have an hour and a half to spare, or you simply want the full experience. Event tomorrow? A clean-up is the safer bet, because longer facials with heavy extraction can leave temporary redness.

If the appointment is part of wedding prep, our bridal skincare timeline shows how to space sessions so nothing new touches your skin in the final week. And if you want a full pamper day, a hair spa for monsoon frizz pairs well with either.

At The Stylist Unisex Salon in Sector 52, opposite Artemis Hospital, the therapist looks at your skin under proper light before suggesting either. Call 8178159945 and ask what fits. Some days the honest answer is a clean-up, not the costlier facial, and we will tell you that.

Salon tip: Come with a bare face. If you walk in wearing full makeup, the first ten minutes go to removing it. Sunscreen only, and you get more actual treatment for your money.

Questions we hear at the salon

Is a clean-up enough before a party or event?

Usually yes. A clean-up removes surface dullness and clears clogged pores, which is what most people want before an event. It carries less risk of next-day redness than a longer facial, so it is the safer pick when the event is within 24 hours.

How long does the fresh look last after a facial?

Clients usually notice the glow for three to seven days, depending on skin type, sleep, and sun exposure. A facial is not a permanent change; it is a deep maintenance session. Regular clean-ups between facials keep the results looking consistent.

I have sensitive skin. Which should I choose?

Tell the therapist before anything starts. A gentle clean-up with mild products is often the safer first step, since it involves fewer products and less massage. Avoid anything with strong scrubs or heat until you know how your skin reacts.

Can I get a clean-up and a facial in the same week?

There is rarely a reason to. Both involve exfoliation, and doubling up can leave skin irritated. Pick one, see how your skin responds, and space the next session out. Your therapist can suggest a gap that suits your skin type.
