Your wedding is six weeks away and your entire grooming plan so far is a haircut the day before. That is exactly how grooms end up hating their wedding photos. A groom's prep is simpler than a bride's, but the timing still matters. Work backwards from the wedding day and everything gets easier.
01 Six to eight weeks out: make the plan
Sit with your barber for a proper consultation, not a rushed ten-minute cut. Decide the shape you are growing toward, because most wedding haircuts need a few weeks of growth to shape properly. This is also the time to settle the beard question. Growing it out or keeping it sharp, pick one and commit. A basic routine starts now too: a gentle cleanser, a moisturiser and sunscreen in the morning. Nothing fancy. Your skin needs weeks to show any effect.
02 Three to four weeks out: handle the details
Now is the window for anything that needs a test run. Covering greys? Get it done now so the colour can be adjusted, and always with a patch test first. If the photographer or family wants you in light makeup for the wedding day, do a trial now, not on the morning. Book your final haircut appointment this week too. Good barbers in Gurugram fill up fast in wedding season, and you do not want to squeeze this in.
This is also the right time to sort your nails and any tan lines. Small things, but they show up in close-up photos more than you expect.
If you are unsure what suits your face, read our men's haircut guide before the consultation. Walking in with a clear idea saves both of you time.
03 Seven to ten days out: the final cut
Get the final haircut seven to ten days before the wedding, not two or three. Fresh cuts look sharpest after a few days of settling, and if anything needs a small fix you still have time. Get the beard shaped in the same visit. From here on, no new products on your face. No experimenting with a friend's serum or a new shaving cream. Your skin has a routine now. Protect it.
04 The last 48 hours: protect the plan
Nothing new goes near your face or hair. Trim your nails, get some sleep, drink water. On the wedding morning, shower, apply a light moisturiser, and arrive with clean, dry hair. Tell your barber or stylist the exact time you need to be ready, then add thirty minutes of buffer. Weddings run late. Your grooming should not be the reason.
Eat something solid before you leave for the venue. A long day on an empty stomach shows on your face in photos.
The one rule: Never get a haircut the day before your wedding. A cut needs days to settle into its real shape, and a bad surprise the night before cannot be fixed.
Grooms getting ready with us usually book the final cut and beard shaping in one visit. A men's haircut is Rs 199 at The Stylist Unisex Salon in Sector 52. Call 8178159945 to block your slot early in wedding season.
Questions we hear at the salon
When should a groom get his haircut before the wedding?
Seven to ten days before. A fresh cut looks its best after a few days of settling, and the buffer gives you time for small fixes. A haircut the day before photographs harshly and leaves no room for corrections. Book the slot three to four weeks ahead, since good barbers fill up fast during wedding season.
Should grooms get a facial before the wedding?
A cleanup or facial two to three weeks before the wedding can help with clogged pores and dullness, but it is optional, not essential. The bigger win is a routine started six weeks out: cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen. Never try a new treatment in the final week. Redness or a reaction close to the wedding has no time to settle.
How should a groom manage his beard before the wedding?
Decide the direction six to eight weeks out: full beard or sharp and clean. Growing needs time; shaping needs a barber who knows the plan. Do the final shaping at the same visit as your final haircut, seven to ten days before. Keep the neckline and cheeks tidy in between, but do not reshape anything in the final week.
Should a groom wear makeup on the wedding day?
Light makeup for grooms is common, mainly to even out skin tone and reduce shine in photos. If you want it, do a trial three to four weeks before so you can see it in daylight and photographs. On the day it should look like nothing. Heavy or obvious makeup on a groom photographs badly and feels uncomfortable for hours.
