Hair Fall in Gurugram: Causes, Fixes and When to See a Doctor

The shedding file · 7 min read · Updated September 2026

The short answer

Losing 50 to 100 hairs a day is normal. In Gurugram, the common amplifiers are hard water mineral buildup, stress, crash dieting, post-illness shedding and harsh chemical overlap. Salon scalp treatments, oiling discipline and fixing the water help the common cases. See a doctor if hair comes out in clumps, the parting visibly widens, or shedding starts suddenly with no trigger.

Every client with hair fall asks the same thing: is this normal? Usually the answer is yes, amplified by something fixable. Occasionally the answer is no, and the fix is medical. Knowing which situation you are in saves money, time and a lot of anxiety. Here is how to tell.

01What is normal

Fifty to 100 hairs a day is the textbook range, and long or thick hair makes normal shedding look dramatic: a hundred long hairs is a visible ball. Seasonal shedding peaks exist too, and the drain does not distinguish normal from abnormal. Count over weeks, not days: a consistently full brush for a month is data; one bad hair-wash day is not.

02The Gurugram amplifiers

Hard water: mineral film weakens the scalp environment and increases breakage that looks like shedding. Our hard water guide covers it.

Stress: major stress pushes hair into the shedding phase two to three months later, which is why the cause is often forgotten by the time the fall starts.

Crash dieting: hair is non-essential tissue; the body cuts its rations first when protein and iron drop.

Post-illness: fevers commonly trigger shedding weeks later. It looks alarming and usually resolves on its own.

Chemical overlap: colouring over colouring, rebonding fragile hair. Breakage from damage is not shedding, but clients count it the same way.

03What helps

Fix the water if you have not: filter or clarifying routine. Scalp treatments to clear buildup and improve the follicle environment. Oiling discipline: regular, not frantic; twice a week with proper washing beats daily panic-oiling. Protein and iron in the diet; hair is built from both. Gentle handling: wide-tooth comb, no tight hairstyles on wet hair, heat protectant always.

What does not help: switching shampoos weekly, miracle oils at miracle prices, and stressing about the shedding, which feeds the cycle.

04When to see a doctor

Hair coming out in clumps or handfuls; a visibly widening parting or shrinking ponytail; smooth bald patches; shedding with itching, pain or scaling; sudden onset with no identifiable trigger; or shedding that has not slowed after three months of good care. These can signal thyroid issues, hormonal shifts, deficiencies or scalp conditions that need diagnosis, not products. A dermatologist first, then the salon supports the recovery.

Hair fall FAQ

Does oiling stop hair fall?

Oiling reduces breakage and improves the scalp environment, which helps the common cases. It does not stop hormonally driven or medical hair loss. Regular gentle oiling: yes. Expecting oil to fix clumps of shedding: no.

Which shampoo is best for hair fall?

No shampoo regrows hair. What matters is a gentle, balanced shampoo used correctly and a clean scalp. Spend the effort on diet, water quality and a scalp assessment instead of the shampoo aisle.

Can stress really cause hair fall?

Yes, and it is one of the most common causes we see. Major physical or emotional stress pushes a large share of hair into the shedding phase about two to three months later. The good news: it usually reverses once the trigger passes.

When should I see a dermatologist for hair fall?

Clumps, visible thinning, bald patches, scalp pain or itching, or no improvement after three months of good care. Earlier is better; hair conditions respond best when caught early.
