02 What rebonding does

The treated length stays straight permanently. It does not loosen and it does not revert in humidity. Only your new growth comes in with its natural texture, which is why rebonded hair needs root touch-ups every 6 to 9 months, and why the line between straight lengths and wavy roots needs managing as it grows.
Rebonding suits tight curls and coils that smoothening cannot tame, and anyone who wants a permanent straight result and accepts the maintenance contract that comes with it.

04 Which holds up in Gurugram
NCR humidity is the stress test for any straightening treatment. Rebonded hair barely notices it: the bonds were rebuilt straight, and moisture in the air does not undo that chemistry.
Smoothened hair will pouf a little on the worst July days, because the underlying texture was only relaxed, not rebuilt. A good anti-frizz serum and a quick blow-dry handle it on most days.
So the local rule of thumb: if your hair rebels hard every monsoon and you are tired of fighting it, rebonding gives the calmer result. If you like some volume and movement and your frizz is moderate, smoothening's softer finish will make you happier.
05 The damage question
Both are chemical treatments, so damage-free is marketing, not chemistry. Rebonding is harsher by nature; on already coloured, bleached or fragile hair it can push strands past recovery. Smoothening is gentler, but repeated sessions stack up over time.
What protects your hair is not the brand name on the bottle but the stylist's judgement: strand tests before committing, correct processing time for your hair's condition, and refusing to treat hair that is not healthy enough. A salon that never says no to a chemical service is a red flag. We turn treatments away when the hair cannot take them.
The regrowth line is the whole game with rebonding. Plan root touch-ups before the contrast between straight lengths and natural roots gets obvious, usually around month six. With smoothening there is no such deadline.
