Hair Spa vs Hair Botox: Different Jobs, Different Results

The Stylist Unisex Salon · 28 September 2026 · 6 min read

Your hair feels rough, looks dull, and you have decided it needs a salon treatment. The menu offers a hair spa and hair botox, and the descriptions sound suspiciously alike. Nourishing. Repairing. Shine. So which one do you actually need? They are built for different problems, and picking the wrong one is how you spend money and see nothing change. Here is how to choose.

01 What a hair spa does

A hair spa is maintenance. It is a deep-conditioning ritual: cleanse, a nourishing mask chosen for your hair type, steam or heat to help it absorb, a scalp massage, and a smooth blowout. It hydrates the hair, calms surface frizz, and leaves everything soft and shiny for a week or two.

Think of it like a facial for your hair. It keeps healthy hair healthy and gives tired hair a reset. What it does not do is repair real damage. If your hair is fried from bleach, a spa will make it feel nice for a few days and then the damage will still be there. For frizz-specific spa benefits, see our hair spa guide for monsoon frizz.

02 What hair botox does

Hair botox is repair. It is a concentrated treatment with proteins and conditioning agents that fills in the damaged, porous areas of the hair shaft. The result is hair that feels thicker, smoother, and stronger, with frizz reduced and shine restored. It targets damage from bleach, colour, and heat, the stuff a regular mask cannot fix.

It takes longer than a spa, around 90 minutes to 2 hours, and involves sealing the treatment with a flat iron. Results last 4 to 8 weeks, noticeably longer than a spa's glow. We explain it fully in our hair botox guide.

04 Which one should you book

Ask what your hair's actual problem is. Hair feels dry and dull but is otherwise healthy? Book the spa. Hair is rough, tangles constantly, feels stretchy when wet, or has been through bleach or heavy colour? Book the botox. Hair is healthy and you just want it to look great for an event next week? The spa is cheaper and does the job.

When people are unsure, we ask them to come in and let us feel the hair. Texture tells the truth faster than any description. You can call 8178159945 for a quick opinion before booking.

05 Can you do both

Yes, but not on the same day and not every week. A sensible rhythm is hair botox when the hair needs repair, then regular spas in between to maintain the result. Doing a spa a week or two after botox can actually extend the smooth feeling. Doing botox every month is overkill and a waste of money. Your stylist should space treatments based on how your hair responds, not on a fixed schedule.

The honest upsell test: if your hair is healthy and a salon pushes botox over a spa, ask why. Sometimes the answer is genuine, but a spa is the right, cheaper answer more often than salons admit.

Questions we hear at the salon

Is hair botox better than a hair spa?

Neither is better, they do different jobs. A hair spa maintains and hydrates healthy hair, while hair botox repairs damaged hair. Pick based on your hair's condition: maintenance means spa, damage means botox. A stylist can feel your hair and tell you which one it needs.

How much do hair spa and hair botox cost?

Pricing varies with hair length and density at most salons, and hair botox generally costs more than a hair spa because the products are concentrated and the appointment is longer. Ask for both quotes at your consultation so you can compare properly for your specific hair.

Can I get a hair spa the same week as hair botox?

It is better to space them out. Get the botox first, let it settle for a week or two, then follow with a spa to maintain the smoothness. Doing both in the same week is unnecessary layering that does not improve results and just costs more.

Which one helps with frizz?

Both help, in different ways. A hair spa calms surface frizz for a week or two with hydration. Hair botox reduces frizz for longer by filling damaged areas of the hair. If frizz is your only complaint and your hair is healthy, start with the spa.
