Upper Lip and Chin Threading: Quick Guide

The Stylist Unisex Salon · 28 September 2026 · 5 min read

You catch your upper lip hair in the car mirror at a red light and spend the rest of the drive annoyed. Chin hair appears like an uninvited guest every few weeks. These small areas cause disproportionate stress because they sit right in the middle of your face. Threading handles both in under ten minutes. Here is the quick guide.

01 Why threading suits these areas

Threading removes hair with a twisted cotton thread: no chemicals, no heat, no wax residue. For the upper lip and chin that matters, because the skin here reacts easily and sits where everyone looks. It is precise enough to clean the lip line without disturbing the surrounding skin much, and it handles the coarse chin hairs that bleach can only lighten. The whole thing takes five to ten minutes.

It is also the fastest hair-removal option for the face; most clients are in and out before their coffee would cool.

Because nothing is applied to the skin, there is no waiting for products to set and no residue to wash off.

02 Pain and what to expect

The upper lip stings more than the chin; the skin is thinner and the nerve endings denser. It is a sharp, brief sensation, over in seconds per section. Eyes watering is common and involuntary; nobody judges it. Redness usually fades within an hour. If you are very sensitive, ask the therapist to work in smaller sections with pauses in between.

A soothing wipe or cold compress afterwards calms the area quickly, and most redness is gone before you reach home.

03 How often, and when to book

Most clients rebook every two to four weeks depending on how fast their hair grows. Book two to three days before any event, not the morning of, so redness fully settles. Avoid threading over active breakouts or freshly exfoliated skin. Threading and bleach solve the same problem differently: threading removes the hair, bleach lightens it. If the hair is fine, either works; if it is coarse, threading looks cleaner.

Pair the appointment with your brow threading and the whole face is maintained in a single fifteen-minute visit.

04 Aftercare in one paragraph

Skip makeup on the area for the rest of the day, avoid touching it, and keep it simple: a light, fragrance-free moisturiser is enough. If tiny bumps appear, they usually settle overnight. And if you are considering colour near the face, our balayage vs highlights guide covers face-framing shades.

Avoid gym sessions and heavy sweating for the rest of the day; salt on freshly threaded skin stings and can cause bumps.

At The Stylist Unisex Salon in Sector 52, opposite Artemis Hospital, upper lip and chin threading is a walk-in friendly service. Call 8178159945 if you want to combine it with a brow shape in one visit.

Salon tip: Do not apply numbing cream without telling the therapist. Some creams change how the skin grips the thread, and we adjust technique if we know.

Questions we hear at the salon

Does upper lip threading hurt a lot?

It stings sharply but briefly; each section takes seconds. The upper lip is more sensitive than the chin because the skin is thinner. Eyes watering is common and involuntary. Most clients find it very manageable, and regulars barely flinch at all.

Threading or bleach for the upper lip?

Threading removes the hair completely; bleach only lightens it. Fine hair does well with either. Coarse or dark hair looks cleaner threaded. Sensitive skin often prefers threading since no chemicals touch the skin. A quick look at your hair type settles the debate.

How often should I thread my chin?

Every two to four weeks suits most people, depending on growth speed. Chin hair is often coarse and noticeable, so waiting too long defeats the purpose. Book it together with your brow clean-up and both stay maintained in one visit.

Can threading cause breakouts?

Occasionally, if bacteria gets into the freshly opened follicles. Not touching the area, skipping makeup for the day, and keeping the skin clean afterwards prevent most of it. If you break out every single time, tell your therapist; technique or aftercare may need adjusting.
