Eyebrow Threading vs Waxing: Which Shapes Better?
The short answer
Threading gives more precise shaping and suits sensitive skin since it uses no chemicals or heat; results last 2 to 3 weeks. Waxing is faster and better for cleaning large areas, but less precise for detailed shaping and harsher on sensitive skin. 01How threading works
A twisted cotton thread is rolled over the skin, catching and pulling hairs out by the root in precise lines. No chemicals, no heat, no wax touching the skin. The threading artist works hair by hair along the brow's natural line, which is why threading shapes with such control.
The sensation: a quick pinching, repeated. Most clients find it less painful than waxing, though the upper lip area stings more than brows.
02How waxing works
Warm wax is applied around the brow, a strip pressed on, and removed in one pull. It is fast: a full brow cleanup takes minutes. The trade is precision: wax removes a swath, which is efficient but unforgiving if the placement is slightly off.
Wax also pulls at the skin itself, which is why sensitive or retinoid-treated skin can react badly. Anyone using tretinoin or strong acids should avoid waxing that area entirely.

Shaping or reshaping brows: threading, always. The control matters when the brow line is being defined.
Quick cleanup between shapings: either works; waxing is faster.
Sensitive, acne-prone or medicated skin: threading. No heat, no chemicals, no skin pulling.
Very coarse, fast-growing hair: waxing grips stubborn hair well, though threading handles it too with patience.

Does threading hurt more than waxing?
Most people find threading less painful: a series of quick pinches versus waxing's single sharp pull plus skin tug. Upper lip threading stings more than brow threading, but both are over in minutes.
How often should I get my eyebrows done?
Every 2 to 3 weeks maintains the shape. Stretching to 4 weeks usually means a full reshape rather than a tidy-up, which takes longer.
Can threading cause wrinkles?
No. This persistent myth has no basis; threading pulls hair, not skin, and the brief pressure involved does not cause or worsen wrinkles.
Which is more hygienic?
Both are hygienic when done properly with fresh thread or fresh wax and applicators per client. Watch for double-dipping of wax sticks; a clean salon never reuses applicators.
